Australia Trip 2012 Part III - TarraWarra Estate, Yarra Valley

This was the second winery that we visited in Yarra Valley and the one with the most interesting architecture. A passage way with curved lofty sandstone wall led us to a courtyard where we were greeted by 8 (if I remember correctly) majestic pillars erected in between the cellar door and the TarraWarra Museum of Art. Large portraits windows offered glorious views of the vineyard.

With the clear blue sunny sky as backdrop, the place became a fantastic spot for photography. I was busy and happily snapping away while the rest were already in the cellar door getting ready for the wine tasting. Look at the pictures and you will understand what I mean.

Established in 1983, TarraWarra Estate is famous for their Chardonnay and Pinot Noir which consistently receive widespread acclaim and many prestigious Australian and international awards. 

We went for their full tasting of their Tin Cows Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Shiraz and Merlot in that order. 

I particularly like the TarraWarra Estate Reserve Chardonnay and we bought a bottle for that night's dinner. The wine has lemon zest aromas with underlying notes of cashew nuts and the palate has a creamy texture.  With oak and tank maturation, the wine shows an elegant complexity with appealing freshness.

The restaurant setting was splendid and offered full view of the vineyard. What a shame that we already had lunch at Innocent Bystander earlier (But I must say it was good too). 

We left the place satisfied.
